Combination Skin Care: Is Your Skin Confused?
Is a skin care program for combination skin what you need? Does your skin seem to have a mind of it's own?
Do your cheeks sometimes get dry and flaky while your the rest of your face gets so oily that your make-up seems to slide off your forehead, nose and chin? Then you probably have a combination type of skin.
How do you take care of it? The secret is in finding the right kind of combination skin care products. The goal here is to moisturize the dry parts and keep the oil in check. Finding the right products to restore the correct balance to your skin is so important.
The key here is balance. What most folks with this type of skin do is the same thing that those with oily skin do.
They try to dry up the oil. They'll use cleansers or soaps that are way too strong. They use harsh astringents and won't use any moisturizers.
That doesn't work and here's why.
Your skin is smart. Anytime you use something to try and strip away it's natural oils, your skin goes in to overdrive and produces even more oil to make up for it.
Your skin is saying, "So sorry, I need that oil and you can't have it. You thought that "T" zone of yours was bad before, you ain't seen nothin' yet. 'Fire up the oil glands boys, and start pumpin'."
Okay, so maybe that was a little dramatic, but you get the point. As the proud owner of combination skin, probably like you I've tried anything and everything over the years to control it. Once again, the key is balance.
Good combination skin care products will contain things like witch hazel to tighten and tone, vitamin E to nourish and shea butter to soften and heal.
They will add enough moisture to make sure those oil glands don't go crazy, yet will refresh and revitalize your skin. The right products work with your skin, adding moisture in just the right places.
It's important to be gentle with your skin. No tugging or pulling (or picking at those occasional blemishes) You'll want to use warm, not hot water and a soft wash cloth on your face.
Cleanse your face in the morning and at night. And as a side note, don't forget your neck, it's an extension of your face. Be nice to it and it won't be waving at you in the years to come.
Let me tell you an example of how taking good care of your skin can be great for your ego. One of the best compliments I've ever gotten was when my daughter and I were shopping in the mall. We were done, ready to check out and I asked her to take some clothes up to the register for me.
When she got there, the cashier asked her if she was ready to pay and she told her, "Oh, these aren't for me, they're for my mom. Here she comes now". When I walked up to the counter, the cashier had a surprised, "deer in the headlight look" and said "This is your mom? She's not old enough to be your mom". My daughter was 24 at the time.
Now if we were buying half the store, we wouldn't have believed her quite so much, but we were only getting a couple of things so she really didn't have to say that. Megan and I just looked at each other, smiled, said "thank you" to the nice cashier, paid for our stuff and left the store giggling.
Now I don't tell you that to brag, but when people me ask how old my kids are (I have four, my oldest is now 27. My youngest is five). They kind of look and say "Really? You don't look old enough to have kids that age." It's a good feeling to know that because of using a good combination skin care program, my skin doesn't give away my age.
You can do much better than me. Is a great program for combination skin care all that important? The answer is a great big "Yes". Taking care of yourself and your skin is one of the best gifts you can give to yourself. Why not start today?
