Need A Cleanser For Sensitive Skin? Here’s What To Look For

Over the years, I've talked with many folks who have been blessed, or they may say cursed, with sensitive skin. It seems like they have tried an endless number of products to find the best skin cleanser for them. Many cleansers say they are for sensitive skin, but once they use them, Ouch. The burning, the irritation, the redness; it's not a pretty picture.

What's a person to do?

Well, reading the labels to check for any extra fragrances or unneccesary fillers is a great start. So many times it's the fragrances that the skin care companies add to their cleansing products that cause the irritation. Most folks want to use a cleanser that's effective and cleans their skin. The perfumy stuff just isn't necessary. It's all fluff and no substance.

Also, the more natural the ingredients, the better. Did you know that oats and oat extracts are really soothing to sensitive skin. Yep, that Quaker oat guy knows what he's talking about.

And, as a kid, do remember your Mom or Grandma giving you a bath and adding oats to it when you had a rash or the chicken pox? You felt better afterwards, didn't you? Gotta love those oats.

Although folks with oily skin can be sensitive to certain ingredients, the majority of people with sensitive skin tend to be on the dry side. For that reason, look for a sensitive skin cleanser that nourishes that dry skin.

Give your skin it's daily dose of vitamins any way you can. Two of the best ones are Vitamin E and Pro-Vitamin B5. Both of these vitamins are great because they have the least chance to cause irritation. Look for these in the products you choose. Your skin will be soft and supple.

A few truly beneficial plant extracts that your sensitive skin should love are Licorice, Emblica and Hemidesmus. These are Ayurvedic ingredients that help to minimize the redness and irritation that folks with sensitive skin are prone to.

And while we're at it. Remember that the way you treat your skin makes a huge difference in how it reacts. Be gentle with it. Be nice to your skin. Use luke-warm water, not hot water. No unnecessary rubbing and scrubbing.

Your face is not a fry pan. I know I used to think that the harder I scrubbed, the cleaner my face would be. Not true. Let your cleanser for sensitive skin do the work for you. You've now got a great foundation to start with.

Now it's on to the next step: You know what to look for in a cleanser for sensitive skin, let's find a toner.
