A Mild Facial Skin Toner: Your Second Step To Caring For Sensitive Skin

One phrase comes to mind when it comes to sensitive skin ,"Handle with care". Skin toner can be especially tricky. So many ingredients can lead to so much irritation.

Because of this, there are lots of folks who have given up on some over-the-counter products in favor of a homemade skin toner. A really good one is good 'ol Witch Hazel. It's superior as an astringent, as it tightens and tones your skin.

When you're looking for a complete skin care program and want to protect that sensitive facial skin, toner that has Witch Hazel in it is probably the way to go. Look also for a toner that contains Pro-Vitamin B5 (panthenol). It helps by penetrating into your skin, giving it the help it needs without irritating or drying it out.

Here's a little skin care tip for you that especially helps when you have sensitive skin. When you're applying your toner, dampen the cotton and pat, don't wipe the toner on.

There are a couple of reasons for this little trick. First, wiping the toner in tends to stretch and pull your skin and that can lead to what? Lines and wrinkles. Not good.

Second, (and I'll bet you never thought of this one, I didn't until I heard it) is that when you pat the toner on it just goes in that spot until you move to another place on your face. If you wipe on the facial skin toner, you're picking up any left-over make-up, cleanser or whatever and redepositing on other parts of your face. Ewww.

An important thing to remember too, is to stick with one skin care product line. Don't mix and match. In other words, please don't go to the drug store and buy Brand A for a cleanser, then the department store and get Brand B for a night cream. Then Brand C looks pretty good for a toner on the shopping channel, well, you get the picture.

It holds true for anybody, but especially for you with sensitive skin that using products that weren't meant to go together can cause a chemical reaction on your face. All those items may be fine by themselves, but mix them together and, hoo boy. We could have an issue here. All I'm saying here is be aware. It's better to be a little over-protective of your sensitive skin. Do that and I bet you'll have a happy face for a long, long time.
