Moisturizers Oily Skin Thrives On: “Look, Ma. No Shine”
I know what you're thinking. What do you mean, moisturize my oily skin? There's so much shine on my face now that I can see myself in it. Moisturizers, oily skin doesn't need moisturizers. It didn't make much sense to me either at first, but here's what you'll find interesting.
Treating oily skin isn't much different than taking care of any other skin type. Most folks need pretty much the same things; cleanse, tone and moisturize. The difference is in the kinds of products you use. It's especially important when it comes to the oily skin moisturizer you choose. Hey, that rhymes.
The best moisturizer for oily skin should be light weight; a lotion form is best. Check the ingredients on the label. Your moisturizer should be water-based, not oil-based. Now, oil is not necessarily a bad thing for those with dry skin. (or if you're a car engine or you need to make french fries). However, when your skin is oily, that extra oil tends to clog pores which leads to break-outs and blackheads. Not what we're looking for.
One of the first things oily skin owners do is try to dry their skin out and not use any moisturizers. As we've discussed earlier talking about oily skin cleansers and again with oily skin toners, all this does is create an endless circle of your skin over-producing more oil. The less moisture you give your skin, the more oil it produces to make up for it.
Another oily skin care tip is to moisturize both in the morning and at night. Why do it twice? Frankly because your skin really needs it. Try using a lotion in the morning. It's lighter and allows your skin to "breathe" during the day. Check to make sure it has a sun screen in it. An SPF 15 is great.
End your day with a night-time moisturizer made for oily skin. It will probably feel a little heavier than your day-time lotion, but that's fine. It shouldn't feel greasy, though. You want your skin to repair itself while you sleep and this is just what the doctor ordered. Remember, it's important to read those labels again. What you use on your skin is only as effective as what's in the products.
While we're on the subject of ingredients, have you ever heard of tea tree oil or neem or marigold? Maybe you recognize tea tree oil, it's wonderful for reducing oiliness. Marigold, mixed with neem and iopmoea plants is an Ayurvedic blend that minimize oil while preventing acne and inflammation. Use products with these natural ingredients in them and your skin will thank you many times over.
Now that you're giving your skin the moisturizers oily skin needs, it won't be long before you'll be seeing some really positive results; a more even complexion, fewer break-outs. You'll find yourself blotting less during the day(gotta love those blotting papers), your make-up will still be on at noon(and stay on until you take it off) and you can look in the mirror and say, "Look Ma, no shine."
